BES started its journey long ago as the think tank of National Professor M. Ibrahim, and was officially registered with the Joint Stock Company of Bangladesh in 2012 under the leadership of Prof. A.K. Azad Khan (President at that time) and Prof. Liaqat Ali (General Secretary at that time). At that early stage, the specialty of endocrinology (Diabetes, Thyroid, and other hormonal disorders) was in a very primitive condition in Bangladesh.

Today, through the visionary leadership of our predecessors, endocrinology has become a priority area for physicians, and patients are now increasingly aware and receiving standard treatment across the country. Our manpower has expanded to more than 400 endocrinologists. The Government has been increasing posts in public medical colleges, while private medical colleges are also recognizing the growing demand for endocrinologists.

As President of the Society, I am truly grateful to all former leaders of BES—especially Professor Md. Faruque Pathan, Prof. S.M. Ashrafuzzaman, and Prof. Muhammad Hafizur Rahman—whose dedicated efforts, along with their teams, have turned the dreams of endocrinologists into reality. Yet, many things remain to be done, and we still have a long way to go. I envision the establishment of a National Institute of Endocrinology in Bangladesh, as well as the development of disease-specific superspecialists (Thyroidologists, Thyroid Cancer Specialists, Thyroid Surgeons, Parathyroid Surgeons, and more).

I earnestly request all endocrinologists to work together for the advancement of the specialty and for the continued progress of the Bangladesh Endocrine Society (BES). I humbly seek your extended cooperation for the smooth and successful functioning of the Society during my tenure, and I pray for your good wishes for my health.

I wish BES will continue to grow and progress with great success

Dr. Faria Afsana
President
